Atlanta Referendum!
We — all of us — need your help to put the “Stop the Atlanta Safety Training Facility Public (aka Stop Cop City) referendum on the up-coming November 7 Atlanta ballot.
We need all registered Atlanta voters — including your friends, neighbors and even peeps that you don’t like — to sign the ballot-access petition before the August 14th deadline. If you are not registered to vote, please do so. You can sign the petition the next day. Then please put the Tuesday November 7th election day on your calendar and vote !
This referendum is more than militarization of much-needed green space, more than the execution-murder of a peaceful protester in a public DeKalb park, more than the heavy political hands of Atlanta’s mayor and Georgia’s governor and attorney general, more than behind-the-scenes power plays of Atlanta’s corporate businesses, more than the back-door politics of the Democratic and Republican Parties, more than the corrupt influence of the Atlanta Police Foundation, more than the pollution of South River and Intrenchment Creek, more than . . . .
This referendum is about our promised democracy, is about necessary over-sight and accountability of Atlanta’s decision-makers, is about making Atlanta’s governance listen to us, is about two public comment sessions (the first in September 2021 and the second just this last June 5th) where speakers were over-whelmingly against the proposed “Cop City.”
We are a political party that is always looking for good people to run for elective office, including for Atlanta City Council. Your help is needed, whether it’s collecting petition signatures, educating your neighbors, spreading the word on Social media, helping us build a campaign for law enforcement to be accountable to the people and civilian authorities, and perhaps running for office on these and other issues.

Georgia Green Party 2023 Annual Meeting, Sat., July 29th
Notice is given of, and Greens from across Georgia are urged to gather for, the 2023 Annual Convention of the Georgia Green Party. We will convene on Saturday, July 29th, at 10am, with plans to adjourn at 4pm that afternoon. This annual meeting is our opportunity to amend the state party’s state Platfform. Green Party members and others registered to participate in the Convention are invited to show up at 10am to caucus for the purpose of naming delegates from their county to the 2023 Annual Convention of the Georgia Green Party. This virtual event will be hosted on an online conferencing platform and pre-registration is required.
This meeting will consider nominations for internal party offices, including eight two-year seats and two one-year seats on the state committee, plus two two-year seats and two one-year seats on the state party’s Delegation on National Green Party Affairs. The Annual Meeting will also consider proposed amendments to the state party platform and proposed changes to the bylaws as such may have been previously reviewed by the state committee.

Ending Men’s Violence against Women with this Generation (in 13 short episodes)
The first two episodes are now out! Watch for the first ten episodes to be published at roughly daily intervals; and for the final three episodes by the beginning of the year.
On the evening of December 15th, 2020, the Georgia Green Party hosted a forum and panel discussion entitled: Ending Men’s Violence Against Women with this Generation
The event was organized in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of all Violence Against Women, as recognized by the United Nations.
The forum was moderated by Denice Traina, the immediate past co-chair of the Georgia Green Party, with panelists including: Vednita Carter, Robert Jensen and Hilla Kerner.
Vednita Carter is the founder of Breaking Free, a Minneapolis based program providing exit services for women victimized by commercial sexual exploitation, including its John’s School for men arrested for pandering.
Robert Jensen is a professor retired from the University of Texas and the author of multiple books including: the 2007 examination of pornography called “Getting Off: The End of Masculinity” and the 2017 book, “The End of Patriarchy: Radical Feminism for Men”.
Hilla Kerner is a long time member of the Vancouver Rape Relief Collective who serves as their spokesperson working with their public education efforts.
In an hour and a half, the panelists discussed a range of issues including the popular narratives which have cast sexual exploitation as female empowerment, the role of trauma as a predictor for participation in prostitution, the role pornography plays in men’s violence, the role that law enforcement and our schools should be playing to address men’s violence, whether and how perpetrators of men’s violence against women can be rehabilitated, the Moment of Truth Statement on mass incarceration, the misogyny of the political left, the role of race in efforts to protect women from men’s violence, public policy responses by the epidemic of violence and more.
In recognition of this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the Sixteen Days of Action we are called upon to take towards that goal, the Georgia Green Party is now proud to release for the first time, a series of video episodes derived from the recording of our December 2020 event.

Georgia Green Party Statement on Protests in Iran
Approved by the Quick Decision Council of the Coordinating Committee on November 30, 2022
The Georgia Green Party expresses its support for people-centered liberation movements which respect the human rights of women and ethnic and religious minorities in Iran as well as throughout the world. The Georgia Green Party urges the decision-makers in the government in Iran to cease their brutal crackdown on protesters, end human rights violations by police, paramilitary groups and the military. We further urge that they abandon laws and practices which restrict women’s autonomy. The Georgia Green Party urges that women be afforded the same occupational opportunities as men, that their they enjoy equal rights to participate in the governing bodies of the nation and that they enjoy the protection of rights set forth in the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979) and as reaffirmed in the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights.
The Georgia Green Party calls for the United States to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Iran, to normalize diplomatic relations, to lift sanctions, to abide by the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement, including its requirement for signatories to disarm, to cease support for human-rights violating governments and to adhere to human-rights standards in its various police, judicial, probation,prison and parole systems.
The Georgia Green Party affirms the words of Azadeh Shahshahani and Yosi Badie in their September 28, 2022 column in the online version of The Nation:
History is clear that US intervention, including sanctions, only serves US interests and works as collective punishment for the people of Iran, who are already resisting oppression by their own government. … While the people of Iran seek their liberation, we must stand against the US government’s imposition of sanctions against the Iranian people and resist any actions that seek to silence or distort freedom movements.
Background Information
Greens worldwide have long called for an end to war and violence in international relations. The
history of United States aggression towards Iran makes non-interference in its affairs an even more urgent priority. While it may take years and the courage of whistleblowers to reveal to us and the rest of the world the extent of the covert operations undertaken on the US taxpayers’ dime seeking to undermine the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, already public documents (including some cited in the references below) are exposing the role of the U.S. State Department, the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Endowment for Democracy in instigating what appears to be a color revolution.
In 1953, the United States, the United Kingdom and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, the predecessor to today’s British Petroleum (BP), which operates the same gas stations where you may have filled your car’s gas tank recently, cooperated in Operation Ajax, a covert operation which overthrew Iran’s democratically-elected government and installed the Pahlavi monarchy (dictatorship), which was more pliant to the economic,strategic and petroleum interests of the USA and UK.
Since the 1979 revolution which overthrew that brutal dictatorship, the United States has overtly sought regime change by supporting Iraq’s invasion of Iran in 1980, implementing sanctions which have damaged the Iranian economy and providing financial and diplomatic support to various opposition groups. Prominent United States politicians have even supported Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MEK), which the Iranian government claims has killed more than 12,000 Iranians. Most shockingly, the United States assassinated by armored drone Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and others with him in Iraq’s capital Baghdad on January 3, 2022.
While the full extent of United States covert operations is unknown, it is widely believed that its covert agencies have supported sabotage of Iranian nuclear facilities and assassinations of politicians, military personnel and scientists.
The United States’s hostility towards Iran resulted in a United States warship destroying an Iranian civilian airplane over Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf on its normal flight path on July 3, 1988, killing all 290 people on that plane.
The Georgia Green Party supports abolition of the Central Intelligence Agency and all covert operations and dismantling overseas military bases, the permanent closure of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), formerly known as the School of the Americas and drastically reducing the size of the military. We must bring the troops home. There is no other way to restrain the United States’s use of military force to control other countries.
Both the United States and Iran are signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which permits signatories to develop peaceful uses of fissionable material and mandates “negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control.” The Georgia Green Party urges all signatories to comply with the treaty, and it notes that Israel, which the United States supports financially, militarily and diplomatically, has refused to sign the treaty and has developed its own nuclear weapons.
The Georgia Green Party applauds the women and men of Iran who demand an end of laws, customs and abusive practices that discriminate against women and girls. The Georgia Green Party believes the best way to support efforts by the Iranian people is that our nation ceases its violations of women’s rights domestically and internationally. The Georgia Green Party Platform contains a variety of policies which would improve women’s lives in the United States, including fact-based sex education in public schools and universal healthcare, including abortion, and a concerted effort to end men’s violence. The President of the United States must publish without further delay, the Equal Rights Amendment which, after a hundred year long struggle. was finally ratified by the necessary 38th state in January 2020. Internationally, the United States, in its hostility to “communism” and national liberation movements, supported regressive factions worldwide, particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and, wherever these factions have gained power, women’s rights and human rights have been diminished.
One of the catalysts of the current uprising in Iran was the death in custody of Jîna Emînî, a woman who was detained by Iranian police enforcing a law biased against women. Jîna Emînî was from the Kurdish ethnic minority, whose political and cultural rights successive repressive Iranian governments have curtailed. In the United States, how many people from ethnic minorities and economically-disadvantaged backgrounds have been detained, fined, imprisoned, assaulted and killed by local, state and federal police and even vigilantes enforcing discriminatory and unjust laws? In Georgia, recent high profile cases include Ahmaud Arbery and Rashad Brooks. But let’s not forget about immigration detainees like Felipe Montes (January 30, 2021), Cipriano Chavez-Alvarez (September 21, 2020), Santiago Baten-Oxlaj (May 24, 2020) and others who died after being imprisoned in the Stewart INS Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. Immigrant women were sterilized when subjected to non-consensual, medically unnecessary and/or invasive gynecological surgeries while in detention at Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia. Fifty-seven (57) inmates in Georgia state prisons died by homicide in 2020 and 2021. Female inmates sued the Fulton County Jail System for minimal recreational and therapeutic activities as well as for clean drinking water. The Georgia Green Party believes that the best way to promote human rights abroad is to respect human rights here at home, our home, our Georgia home.

COINTELPRO is not just about history, but about the police state tactics which continue to be used by law enforcement to undermine the Constitutionally protected activities which constitute legitimate political organizing in service of our communities.We will know neither democracy nor justice so long as political dissent is criminalized. Yet we now live in an age of the PATRIOT Act, with the FBI targeting ‘black identity extremists’, and operating a countering violent extremism program which targets muslims gathered for prayer while ignoring white supremacist organizing. Georgia Green Party 2022 Additional Annual Meeting, September 23rd and 24th
Notice is given of, and Greens from across Georgia are urged to gather for, the 2022 Additional Annual Convention of the Georgia Green Party. We will convene on Friday, September 23rd, at 7pm for two hours; then again on Saturday, September 24th at 10am, with plans to adjourn at 4pm that afternoon. Please ignore notice of an earlier August date for this event. The July 17th meeting of the state committee were agreed to roll back the dates to allow more time for platform work in advance of this annual opportunity to amend the state party’s governing policy document. Green Party members and others registered to participate in the Convention are invited to schedule at one hour intervals, opportunities for Greens from their counties to caucus for the purpose of naming delegates from their county to the additional Annual Convention for 2020 of the Georgia Green Party. This virtual event will be hosted on an online conferencing platform and pre-registration is required.
This meeting will consider nominations for internal party offices, including eight two year seats and two one year seats on the state committee, plus two two year seats on the state party’s Delegation on National Green Party Affairs. The Annual Meeting will also consider proposed amendments to the state party platform and proposed changes to the bylaws as such may have been previously reviewed by the state committee.
Our Party has traditionally held its nominating convention on the first Saturday of June in each election year. But the 2017 session adopted HB-268 ignoring case law finding that an early qualifying deadline for emerging political parties is unconstitutional in order to align for the convenience of the office of the Secretary of State, the qualifying period for candidates of a political body (like the Green Party, who nominate by convention and petition) with the qualifying period for candidates of the political parties (Republicans and Democrats which nominate by Primary). This calendar change has cost our party 130 days or more for its candidate recruitment efforts. The officers of the Georgia Green Party welcome queries from Georgia attorneys willing to help us litigate this and other issues related to ballot access for Green Party candidates in Georgia.
In March of this year, our slate of two candidates for the Georgia General Assembly qualified with the Secretary of State. They are busy finalizing their ballot access petitioning efforts to secure their place on the ballot. Bradley Smith in Georgia 106th District and Jimmy Cooper from Georgia’s 145th District are each expected to attend. Party officers remain eager to speak with you about opportunities to run in subsequent election cycles for public office in your community as well.

Georgia Green Party condemns corruption of Biden Administration and State Department to overturn the democratic will of the citizens of Pakistan

Coordinating Committee of the
Georgia Green PartyWhereas, in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 9th, 2022, Pakistan’s National Assembly in Islamabad, adopted with a narrow majority, a motion expressing no-confidence in the Coalition government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan; and
Whereas, as a result of this vote, Imran Khan lost his seat as Prime Minister and caused to be scheduled for the following Tuesday, an parliamentary election to name a new Prime Minister; and
Whereas, it was broadly speculated that Shebaz Sharif was expected to assume the role as the Prime Minister; and
Whereas, Sharif is the younger brother of a former Prime Minister of Pakistan prohibited by judicial order from assuming political office due to his past convictions for public corruption; and
Whereas, Khan’s Coalition government consistently pursued foreign policies seeking independence from the Washingon Consensus of imperial agression around the world, refusing the use of Pakistan bases for US CIA operations in Afhanistan and seeking closer trade relationships with China and Russia; and
Whereas, in the midst of the Ramadan fast, millions of supporters rallied and marched in cities, large and small, across the South Asian nation; and
Whereas, it is common knowledge among Pakistanis, though under reported in the Western media, that:
- members of the coalition organizing the vote of no-confidence, including specifically Shebaz Sharif, were facing imminent corruption convictions in prosecutions now largely suspended following the ouster of Prime Minister Khan;
- the ascendacy of Shebaz Sharif as Prime Minister provides him immunity, as a matter of law, from prosecution for the charges he faced until his election;
- that the Biden Administration had used economic incentives and heavy handed threats of U.S. retaliation in the event that the Parliament in Islamabad failed to overthrow the Khan Coalition government; and
- that large sums of U.S. dollars and foreign policy incentives were used to grease palms to build support for the no-confidence vote.
Resolved, that the Georgia Green Party condemns as despicable, the actions of the Biden Administration to interfere in the democratically elected government of yet another sovereign nation.
Resolved, that the Georgia Green Party calls on Congress to investigate the corrupt practices of the Biden Administration and its State Department to overturn the democratic will of the citizens of Pakistan to form their own government and to pursue public policies in the best interests of the Pakistani people.
