1) what is included in the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights, as developed and publicized by the Womens Human Rights Campaign, and
2) what is included in HR-5, the Equality Act which now awaits action in the U.S. Senate,
so I can not weigh in until I know.
I will add that this paragraph
{ to protect those used in prostitution from criminal
prosecution while criminalizing those whose purchases create the market and those who profit by
prostituting the bodies of others, alongside publicly funded support for the exit strategies of the mostly
women leaving prostitution and supported by public education campaigns to deconstruct the myths of
male entitlement to womens bodies which underly the sex industry and a rape culture which has given
rise to #metoo organizing globally;}
IS HIGHLY SEX NEGATIVE and I am disappointed in the Green party supporting these sentences:
1: Criminalizing: those whose purchase creates the market- (yes purchases are evident in markets. So WHAT! either someone sells something you want to buy or you find out someone wants to buy something and you decide to sell it)
2: Criminalizing: the prostituting the bodies of others Where is the part (AGAINST THEIR WILL?) Is being an agent going to become a crime because we use the term pimp?
I do not think these should be criminal acts.
And while I support education- Humans believing they are entitled to another for sexual activity is not what underlies the sex industry. If anything it’s just plain old capitalism. ANYTHING can be for sale.
I hesitate to use Men/male and Women/female as this issue involves discussion on transgendered people. But I will say Men/male and Women/female in the historical use -Yes usually Men, usually of greater size and physical strength, exercise entitlement, rape, and power far too frequently over usually women usually of lesser strength and size, is occurring and education was the proper solution.
Education in the form of Consent and Non-VIolent Communication the LANGUAGE. And these are not what underlies a sex market.
A CULTURE that views frequent, and variously partnered sex as negative is what causes a market. And in some lesser times the culture of stigmatizing people for their differences: Mental handicaps, Physical handicaps, biological/medical issues. So this Norway crap is a start but it is sex-negative.
I truly hope we have not weighed into a person’s personal choice, to declare a group constant. If a few people believe they are not transgendered and should not have been believed and medically treated when they were young, then the medical profession should take that into consideration and inform families as needed.
I don’t understand how a political party resolution makes this situation any better.
I am also concerned with the repeated use of the term “SEX BASED” Is this term to be understood as GENITAL based?
When I look at transgendered issues I look at it as we are ALL FEMALE at first and then depending on how much testosterone affects the embryo and at what time of our development it hits us and for how long- determines what “color” our genitals, sex brain(desire) and identity are. And we need to stop using just male and female because it’s more than that.
